Climbing Team Coach

Overview: 

Petra Cliffs is searching for a qualified coach to lead our high level team. Coaches are responsible for creating and implementing training schedules and workouts, as well as running practices. The coach will work closely with the Youth Programs coordinator to ensure that instruction is helping the kids improve technique, strength, and route reading skills. Some coaching positions will include developing and communicating about opportunities for involvement with the local climbing community.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create engaging and varied practices 
  • Teach and demonstrate climbing techniques 
  • Document practices and training schedules 
  • Ability to coach team climbers through mental strategy
  • Set individual and team goals with input from climbers
  • Establish a positive, focused, and supportive team culture 
  • Ensure the physical, mental, and emotional safety of team climbers 
  • Maintain communication with team families in person and email

(For Development Team only)

  • Attend at least 2 practices each week
  • Organize & communicate with families about monthly objectives

 

(For Competitive Team only)

  • Attend 3 practices each week
  • Attend competitions throughout the year, from USAC Local to National level
  • SafeSport certified, or willingness to obtain
  • USAC level 2 Coach, or willingness to obtain
  • First Aid and CPR certified 

Prefered Qualifications:  

  • 1 year route setting experience
  • Experienced climber (V6/5.12+)
  • Knowledge of appropriate youth exercises and workouts
  • Experience coaching team climbers through Divisional or National level
