Staff Spotlight: Michael Pronzato

Where are you from, and how long have you worked at Petra Cliffs?

I was born an hour north of Philadelphia but have moved all over since I graduated college. I found solace in Vermont in October of 2018, instantly became a member at Petra and then was swept into the Petra workforce in April 2019.

What is a fun fact about you that many of our members don't know?

I almost went to college to play golf. If anyone thinks they can beat me, let’s meet on the course...

Do you have a preferred climbing discipline (boulder/sport/trad)?

I love it all. I started out bouldering in the local gym in PA and then found out I love the rush of being on ropes so I began sport climbing more in the spring/summer of 2018. I have started trad climbing this summer and get a thrill out of how it tests my mental game.

Where is your favorite place to climb and do you have a favorite route?

My favorite route is the Skyline Arete in Bozeman, Montana. It is six pitches of very fun, exposed climbing. I followed the first and only time I did it but I would love to go back and lead it. As far as areas, I went to Puerto Rico before Covid-19 hit and that was amazing.

What is one hobby you’ve always wished you’ve gotten into but haven’t (yet)?

There are so many answers to this. I think I’ll go with unicycling. I have tried it a few times but have never really given it a good shot. Maybe now is the time.

What do you value most about being part of the Petra Cliffs community, especially during this current state of the Coronavirus?

I value that our community is so loyal and still come to climb despite some of our restrictions in the gym. I love coming to work and being excited to see the members and my friends in a place that we feel comfort in these uncertain times.

What's one thing you'd like to see the gym start offering members as we upgrade to Petra 2.0?

A moon board and a foot washing station in the bathrooms. I went to a gym in Calgary, Alberta that had a foot washing station and it was life-changing.
