Avalanche Awareness Evening: Jan. 10th, 6-8pm
Are you a winter enthusiast who slides on snow or climbs frozen waterfalls? Do you recreate beyond the boundaries of the ski resort? Then consider attending an evening with AIARE Avalanche Provider and Petra Cliffs Co-Owner, Steve Charest, discussing some of the hazards and signs of avalanche terrain. The program will start at 6pm in Petra Cliffs and will be limited to the first 15 participants.
Steve will cover some of the possible risks and awareness tools to utilize when heading into the backcountry.
The program will last 40-80 minutes and consist of:
- A video showing the destructive power of avalanches and what you need to know to stay safe in avalanche terrain
- A slide presentation with more details about how to spot avalanche danger, how to navigate in avalanche terrain, what gear to carry and how to use it, how to find a report of current avalanche conditions in your area, and how to learn more about avalanches
- Discussion with question and answers
This evening is free but with a suggested contribution of $20 or more to go towards the IAN Fund
