Where are you from, and how long have you worked at Petra Cliffs?

I grew up in Springfield, VT and have lived in the Burlington area since the mid 90's.  I currently live in Colchester, VT with my wife Angela and our two sons, Spencer and Reid.

When I got to Burlington, I was looking for things to do and found the Burlington Rock Gym. I had a bit of experience with harnesses and rappelling through doing theater work, and I started climbing and working at the Burlington Rock Gym. That closed down and the owner created Petra Cliffs, and he brought me along as General Manager for the opening of the new gym. I decided to make a change in 2005, but stayed connected through some consulting (and Mardi Gras parades!) with the owners, until I rejoined the team this year.

What is your role at the gym?

My role is General Manager - so what ever needs to be done... from accounting to future planning, re-designing our retail spaces and products, facility maintenance, and helping out with groups and belay lessons during this busy summer season, just to name a few.

What are your favorite hobbies?

Sleeping! LOL. With two kids who have lots of activities in different directions that can be a hard one. But as a family we like to go camping, skiing, and hiking. I also enjoy playing golf, visiting breweries, and in our family, I'm known as the Cake Boss for creating themed birthday cakes for our kids.

What do you value most about being part of the Petra Cliffs community, especially during this past year?

I value the strong community that Petra Cliffs has developed and the hard work that the staff and owners have put in to be successful.  I had been a part of the team when Petra Cliffs opened in 2000, and it has been great to see the business and community thrive and prosper over the years that I have been away. I am super excited to be back to help Petra Cliffs continue its growth, and for the next chapter!

What are you looking forward to most with being a part of Petra Cliffs again?

I most look forward to being part of the development and opening of the new gym.  I also am excited about being part of Petra Cliffs' continued success.

What is a fun fact about you that many of the Petra Cliffs Staff and Members don't know?

The current owners, Steve and Andrea, used to work for me :)  I also have an extensive pint glass collection, a rubber band ball the size of a basketball, and a jukebox in our basement!

We welcomed David back onto the Petra Cliffs team in June, and we'd like you to get to know him better! Check out the spotlight on David, his history, hobbies, family, and more.
