Transition to Outdoor Climbing

Posted Thursday, June 3, 2021

If you are looking to gain technical and communication skills to start climbing outside this season,  “Transition to Outdoor Climbing” may be for you! Join us July 16th and 17th; 6-8pm indoors and 9am-4pm outdoors at a local cliff.

We will cover the fundamentals of building anchors, different materials, strengths, forces and falls. You will learn about basic rope management, communication, and “cleaning” a climb when you are finished, using an extended rappel.

This small and friendly clinic will be taught by Petra Guide, Tim Farr, and combines an evening indoor session followed with a full weekend day out at a local cliff. Join us July 16th and 17th; 6-8pm indoors and 9am-4pm outdoors.

Belay experience is highly recommended but not necessary. No equipment is necessary. Beginning with the basics of materials, strengths, forces and falls, and principles of a trustworthy anchor, you will learn to build simple anchors at the top of a climb. Then you will learn about basic rope management, communication, and “cleaning” a climb when you are finished, using an extended rappel. Format for the clinic will be an interactive ‘classroom’ presentation followed by hands on anchor building in the gym. The following day you will head out with your guide to be introduced and practice setting up your own top-rope anchors for climbing outdoors.
