Thal was born and raised in Northern Virginia where he began climbing in his teens with a memorable first experience at Otter Cliffs in Acadia Maine. He escaped the continental United States for adventures in Alaska for two years until moving to Vermont in 2018. Thal likes slopers, granite and long walks on the beach. He works at the front desk, and is one of the gym's four USAC Level 1 routesetters.

Thal is an AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor, and instructs indoor bouldering and climbing, and outdoor bouldering. Check out Thal's guide bio and book Thal for a climbing tour of Vermont's classic boulders!
